Research statement

My primary research interests are in the areas of traumatic stress and diverse populations. Broadly, I am interested in the cognitive appraisal processes that occur after traumatic events and how these impact coping. I am also currently examining mental health concerns of female veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Specifically, I am interested in their reported mental health needs, as well as barriers female veterans encounter in accessing mental health care. In addition to my main research focus of traumatic stress, I conduct some research projects related to minority stress experiences, specifically for gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals. My work in this area examines barriers to mental health access for sexual minorities.
