Research Interests

Adolescent romantic relationships; Adolescent interactions with family members.

Research statement

Our current research focuses on understanding the development of adolescents' romantic relationships. Our primary tools use observational methodologies and video recall techniques to understand participants' own perceptions of the meaning of their interactions with their romantic partners' interactions. We are interested in how these relationships develop over adolescence, how contextual and personal variables (such as gender, identity and intimacy development, temperament, cultural context, and religious context) impact on relationships, and how these relationships impact adolescent functioning. We are currently focused on beginning a 5-year project that will examine interactions in early and middle adolescent romantic couples.
